Prepared for Life: Sophie's Story

When Sophie enrolled at Swift School, academics became fun, and school was no longer something she dreaded. Sophie has ADHD and dyslexia and was not a fit for her previous school due to a lack of programs or assistance geared toward giving her the academic attention she needed.

“Sophie’s previous school told us that Sophie might need extra academic attention to accommodate her needs,” Sophie’s mother, Meridy, recalled. “That person suggested we take a look at Swift.”

Before fourth grade, Sophie’s parents decided to enroll her at Swift School. Sophie stayed at Swift for two years, receiving remediation in a short time.

“Swift excelled my academic performance in all categories,” noted Sophie. “I was able to grasp each topic taught, and I saw improvement in my grades and my motivation to do schoolwork.”

Sophie quickly found her niche outside the classroom and starred in the play Annie. “It was one of my favorite memories,” she remarked. “I spent a lot of time working on it and had so much fun doing it.”

Academically, Sophie received instruction tailored to her learning style. To this day, she still uses one of the methods a former Swift School math teacher taught her.

After leaving Swift, Sophie completed middle school and spent her high school days at one of Atlanta’s most prestigious private Christian schools, Greater Atlanta Christian Academy.

“Swift School gave me a great starting foundation for my academics,” recalled the former Swift School student. “High school at GAC was not easy, but it prepared me for college at Ole Miss.”

Sophie is majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications at Ole Miss and recently made the dean’s honor roll. While she is keeping her plans open for the future, she expressed gratitude to Swift School for helping set her on the path to success. “I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me,” Sophie said. “Swift School gave me a starting point and foundation, and I would tell current Swift students to trust the process.”

Swift School’s student population is approximately 175 students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. The average stay for a lower division student is similar in length to Sophie’s, and her mother provided words of affirmation and a simple call to action for prospective parents.

“Swift is a gamechanger – a lifelong gamechanger. If you are considering Swift and it is an academic fit for your child, make the transition to Swift School.”
