A Changed Life: Nico's Story

Nico's educational experience consisted of memories of sadness and frustration before he stepped foot on Swift School’s campus. Those sad times quickly changed as the young fifth grader who attended Swift through the end of eighth grade became engaged academically and made memories he still cherishes today.

“Before Swift, school was hard and frustrating,” he stated. “I did not want to go to school, and at times it was occasionally boring because I did not really understand what my teachers were talking about.”

Nico's mother, Daniela, heard about Swift from a good friend and a psychologist.

“A friend of mine was the first person to mention Swift School,” she noted. “I also heard about Swift from the psychologist that did Nico's evaluation when we finally identified he had dyslexia.”

Daniela noticed his academic struggles, but she also saw that his frustration with school was “escalating” and his confidence was “completely broken.” She added that they knew Swift School was the right answer since Swift “focuses on all aspects – not just academics.”

Nico's educational experience transformed when he walked through the doors of Swift School, a place that serves students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Swift School prepares its students to be successful in life, and Nico succeeded academically and beyond after coming to the school.

“The teachers helped me understand everything and classes became less boring. I remember when we had a 10-minute brain break where they would play the brain break videos. We always had a few minutes before carpool where teachers would help with questions about our homework which made it a lot easier to get it done. They also had a support system where I could ask additional questions on tests or quizzes to clarify. That made me feel a lot more confident about the answers.”

Nico credited Ms. Lane with helping him learn how to stay properly organized and mentioned that he enjoyed the banter with Mr. Lytle over the latest Alabama and Clemson happenings on the gridiron.

Swift School changed Nico's life.

In addition to the organizational skills he learned, Swift empowered Nico, giving him the self-advocacy, he needed to succeed. He stated, “Swift gave me the confidence to talk to teachers, and self-advocacy has helped me in my new school. I love being in a large school now. I recently presented a business idea in a Shark Tank setting in my business class.”

Daniela described Nico's Swift experience as “empowering,” and wrote a heartfelt message to parents considering enrolling their children at Swift School.

“I would put Swift top of the list! There are a few other schools in the Atlanta area that focus on language differences, but I believe Swift is the one that truly helps children discover their potential and prepares them to be successful not just academically but also in life. Swift is like a second home where children are loved, nurtured, and supported for who they are. It is worth the drive if you are far and the best investment you can make in your children’s future.”
