Orton-Gillingham Approach

The foundation of the academic program is the Orton-Gillingham Approach, which provides guiding principles for instruction and emphasizes multisensory techniques that involve the auditory, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic pathways. Although Swift School's intensive reading and language arts instruction is the foremost consideration, the subjects of math, social studies, and science are also taught using principles of the approach.

OG Coursework & Swift's Teachers

All of Swift’s academic teachers complete Associate Level coursework (70 Hrs) in the Orton-Gillingham Approach, and Lower Division faculty are required to pursue Associate Level credentials in the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (OGA) through the completion of a 100-hour supervised practicum.  This level of training and supervision demonstrates our commitment to providing the best education for our students with the most current evidence-based instruction and techniques.
